Fuzz Luvs
Ever heard of Tribbles or Furbies?
There's a new interactive toy coming out that may leave them behind
in the technological dust. It's Fuzz Luvs, and it's making its debut
this holiday season. Fuzz Luvs combines the care taking challenge of
Neopets with the spontaneity of a Furby, but it has more enjoyable
features than either.
At their original height, Fuzz Luvs are
approximately half a foot high, and they look like plush toys with
fur. However, Fuzz Luvs is meant to function as more than a mere
stuffed animal. When introduced to a family, the shy little fur ball
opens its eyes and looks around.
Talk to it and play with it some more,
and Fuzz Luvs will grow antennae after a certain period of time.
Then the arms sprout from its sides. It stretches taller if it
doesn't feel frightened or startled, eventually stretching up to
twice its original size. This takes time and patience, and the toy
likes it if you play with its hair. Loud or sudden noises will
startle and frighten it, and Fuzz Luvs will retreat back into its
shell until it feels safe again. Fuzz Luvs also gives birth to
between one and three baby fuzzes. If you take them away for too
long, it will squirm and make noises until you put them back.
Because of the element of birth,
parents should be prepared to explain where babies come from if
their child is curious. No matter what the box says, this is a toy
that targets mainly girls between the ages of three and seven.
Younger kids and toddlers may be as frightened of Fuzz Luvs's sudden
movement as it is of them! The commercial shows that Fuzz Luvs come
in four colors: pink, purple, yellow and blue.
They can dance when placed in groups
(another reason for every girl on the block to have one). Four AA
batteries are required for Fuzz Luvs to function, and like every
other toy on the market, the batteries that are included will not
last that long, so plan to buy a big pack of them to keep your child
entertained.
The downside to electronic toys is that
most of them are too new to have extensive durability testing, so
the toy may not last as long with kids that keep it on all day as
opposed to the occasional use on the holidays or when a guest comes
over to the house. Of course, most stores will give you a full
refund or credit if the toy is defective,
so keep your receipt in case of
trouble. Boisterous girls could find that they scare Fuzz Luvs more
than they pamper, but discovering the reactions of an animatronics
playmate is part of a larger learning experience.
The commercial is very catchy and will
undoubtedly attract a lot of girls to the product. Combine that with
the relatively limited distribution of Fuzz Luvs and shoppers
looking for alternatives to other sold out electronic toys, and you
have an item both in short supply and in hot demand. Better grab one
while you still can! Odds
are this will be a big holiday hit.
