Singing Pizza Elmo
Tickle Me Elmo isn't the only
animatronics doll with the magic of Elmo around. This fall, Singing
Pizza Elmo is a big hit on the toy market because of his hilarious
tune and his magical singing pizza, a sidekick who accompanies him
as the bass singer in a pizza-baking duet. Singing Pizza Elmo is
ready to cook up some musical fun with kids 18 months of age and
older.
Elmo comes in a cardboard replica of a pizzeria kitchen, his arms
wide open with a pizza in his right hand, wanting kids to join him
in his song. It's tempting to keep the box as a play set, it's so
cute. Elmo stands eleven inches tall; his body is hard plastic on
the inside and polyester down fake fur on the outside. He wears an
apron and a fluffy, cotton baker's hat like a professional chef.
When someone presses his left hand, Elmo comes to life! He implores
his audience, "Let's sing the pizza song together." You can guess
what comes next – a catchy song spoofing a popular Italian-esque
tune, with Elmo dancing to the beat.
A few verses into the song, Singing Pizza Elmo pauses, swings out
his right hand, and his magical pizza comes to life and starts
singing the refrain! The pizza is made of soft, squishy plastic and
its eyes and mouth move to his words so that it really looks like
he's singing. He's a medium pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, green
peppers and an extra bite! The pizza has a deep, rich voice with a
strong bravado; think of Robin Williams singing the "Figaro" opera
song as a cartoon, and you'll have a good idea of what he sounds
like. Each time the
pizza is about to sing, Elmo with move him forward and close his own
mouth to give the pizza center stage. It's hilarious.
For those inquisitive minds, the song goes like this:
Elmo: A pizza piiiiie -- is made with dough and then we throw
it...into the aaaaair.
Pizza: Into the aaaaair!
Elmo: Yeay! Soooon, we'll add some sauce, and then some
cheeses...and then we bake!
Pizza: Just like a caaaaake!
*Elmo laughs*
Elmo: Yuuuhmy, yuuuhmy, that's a pizza pie!
Pizza: Yuuuhmy, yuuuhmy, you toss me in the sky!
Elmo: A pizza pie is very nice; it's good to eat them by the
sliiiiice!
Both: Yummy, yummy, yum. Baking pizza's so much fun!
*Both laugh*
Elmo: Hey! Who ordered a talking pizza?
*Elmo laughs*
Singing Pizza Elmo comes with four AA batteries, which you will need
to replace with quality substitutes after a certain amount of time.
As with most electronic animated toys, Singing Pizza Elmo is hard
under his fur, so you can't drop him from high distances or let
toddlers bop each other with it like you might with a stuffed
animal. Little children will find Elmo too awkward and heavy to
carry around. Also, Singing Pizza Elmo is spot-washable only,
meaning you can only scrub bits of the surface at a time and cannot
submerse any part of the toy in water. He's better suited as a room
decoration or standing on the floor of a playroom or on a table,
much like the way you would treat an electronic holiday toy that
greets visitors except that your kids can play with it. It's not a
traveling toy, but it will provide a lot of laughs in the home.
The Singing Pizza Elmo toy is bargain-priced compared to most
animated toys on the market this season, and the song Elmo and the
pizza sings is entertaining enough that adults will want to have one
for their foyers, too.
